Ever since sistah Jean became involved in the tattoo world, I've paid attention to that culture noting books, art shows, and radio pieces like this one on All Things Considered.
The reporter does a great job using ambient souds throughout the piece and I like the diverse group of people she selected to interview: Helen, one of the first female tattoo artists in the '70s; Noresh, a Brithish tattoo artist who compares tattoos in the US to those in the UK; Valerie Williams, a first time tattoo recipient; and Sergio Reynoso, a local artist working on Valerie who makes a great observation about the "your body is a temple" purists.
One criticism is that while the reporter sets up the unlikely location of this popular conference (Salt Lake City), she doesn't explain how the conference has won over attendees.
