When Katrina hit, my co-workers talked about places to donate and what we could do to support the artists who were relocated to San Francisco. Then someone had to bring up the ANIMALS. My eyes rolled.
When this Morning Edition story began, again, my eyes started to roll..but then I really listened. What followed is a story that masterfully uses ambience (and sometimes the lack thereof) to demonstrate the destruction the hurricans had on animals, their habitat, and also the people who depend on animal life for their own livelihood.
